{"id":2835,"date":"2014-08-31T15:38:05","date_gmt":"2014-08-31T15:38:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chinesepen.org\/english\/?p=2835"},"modified":"2014-08-31T15:38:05","modified_gmt":"2014-08-31T15:38:05","slug":"china-tells-journalists-to-learn-marxist-news-values","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chinesepen.org\/english\/china-tells-journalists-to-learn-marxist-news-values","title":{"rendered":"China tells journalists to learn &#8216;Marxist news values&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px;color: #444444;line-height: 1.7\">August 30, 2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p>China ordered its journalists on Saturday to learn &#8220;Marxist news values&#8221; and uphold the principles of news as prescribed by the ruling Communist Party, <!--more-->the latest step in President Xi Jinping&#8217;s crackdown on the media.<\/p>\n<p>The guidelines by the All China Journalists&#8217; Association, published by state news agency Xinhua, are aimed at both traditional and online media and are another sign of Xi&#8217;s politically conservative agenda.<\/p>\n<p>The association said journalists &#8220;must learn to master Marxist news values&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Let us hold high the banner of socialist core values,&#8221; the report said, using the party&#8217;s term for orthodox beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>Xi has espoused old school Maoism as he seeks to court powerful conservative elements in the party.
