{"id":3389,"date":"2014-09-23T10:47:21","date_gmt":"2014-09-23T10:47:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chinesepen.org\/english\/?p=3389"},"modified":"2014-09-23T10:47:21","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T10:47:21","slug":"another-zhejiang-democracy-activist-in-custody-for-subversion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chinesepen.org\/english\/another-zhejiang-democracy-activist-in-custody-for-subversion","title":{"rendered":"Another Zhejiang Democracy Activist in Custody for \u201cSubversion\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content-head\" class=\"row-fluid content-head\">\n<p id=\"page-title\" class=\"title\">September 15, 2014<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"content-body\" class=\"row-fluid content-body\">\n<div class=\"region region-content clearfix\">\n<div id=\"block-system-main\" class=\"clearfix block block-system\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<div class=\"ds-3col node node-1 view-mode-full clearfix\">\n<div class=\"span6 group-middle\">\n<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>Less than a month following the August 13 arrest of <strong>L\u00fc Gengsong<\/strong><strong>(<\/strong><strong>\u5415\u803f\u677e<\/strong><strong>)<\/strong> on \u201csubversion of state power,\u201d another core member of the China Democracy Party\u2019s Zhejiang Committee, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hrichina.org\/en\/defenders\/chen-shuqing\">Chen Shuqing<\/a> (<\/strong><strong>\u9648\u6811\u5e86)<\/strong>, was detained on the same charge.<\/p>\n<p>Chen\u2019s wife, <strong>Zhang Donghong (<\/strong><strong>\u5f20\u4e1c\u7ea2)<\/strong>, told HRIC that at 3:30 p.m. on September 11, Domestic Security officers from the Hangzhou Public Security Bureau conducted a search at the couple\u2019s home, and took away a desktop computer, a mobile phone, documents, and some badges, without leaving a list of the confiscated items.<\/p>\n<p>Another source told HRIC that Chen himself was taken away by Domestic Security officers at around 1:00 p.m. the same day. The detention notice from the Hangzhou Public Security Bureau lists 6:00 p.m. as the time of Chen\u2019s detention.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Chen served a four-year sentence for \u201cinciting subversion of state power\u201d in connection with his role in organizing the China Democracy Party\u2019s Zhejiang Committee and articles he wrote calling for democratic reform. He was released in September 2010 and soon resumed his activism. In November that year, he was among six individuals who applied to the Hangzhou Public Security Bureau for a\u00a0permit to hold a demonstration to call for democratic reform. In 2014, he signed a joint public statement urging the release of detained individuals, and published an account of L\u00fc being denied access to his lawyer while in detention.<\/p>\n<p>Chen was a participant in the 1989 student movement, and began his pro-democracy activism in 1995.
