{"id":413,"date":"2014-05-17T23:12:34","date_gmt":"2014-05-17T23:12:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chinesepen.org\/english\/?p=413"},"modified":"2014-05-17T23:14:31","modified_gmt":"2014-05-17T23:14:31","slug":"china-detains-two-rights-lawyers-in-widening-crackdown-on-activists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chinesepen.org\/english\/china-detains-two-rights-lawyers-in-widening-crackdown-on-activists","title":{"rendered":"China detains two rights lawyers in widening crackdown on activists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #444444;line-height: 1.7\">BEIJING Sat May 17, 2014 2:42am EDT<\/span><br \/>\n(Reuters) &#8211; Chinese police detained two prominent human rights lawyers this week, the latest arrests in a growing crackdown on dissent that has targeted rights activists and journalists.<\/p>\n<p>Tang Jingling, a prominent Guangzhou-based lawyer known for his work in cases involving land grabs, counterfeit vaccinations and petitioners protesting corruption, was arrested on Friday afternoon, his lawyer Liu Zhengqing said.<\/p>\n<p>Tang was accused of &#8220;starting quarrels and provoking disputes,&#8221; Liu said on Friday evening.
