Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on prosecution of Mr Liu Xiaobo
欧盟总统代表欧盟就刘晓波遭受迫害问题发表声明如下：
The European Union is deeply concerned by the announcement that Mr Liu Xiaobo, a prominent Human Rights Defender and a signatory of the Charter 08 document, held in custody since 8 December 2008, was formally charged with a crime following the expression of his opinion and his peaceful civic engagement.
欧盟知悉并严重关注刘晓波先生（杰出的人权捍卫者及08宪章文献的签署者，自2008年12月被拘押至今）被正式指控因表达其意见及其和平的公民参与行为而引致的罪行。
The European Union perceives raised accusations of “inciting subversion of state power and overthrowing the socialist system” as unfounded. In light of the Chinese Constitution’s guarantees on the right to freedom of expression and in accordance with provisions of ICCPR which China signed in 1998, the European Union calls for the end of the prosecution of Mr Liu Xiaobo and his immediate release.
欧盟认为指控被提升为“煽动颠覆国家政权与推翻社会主义制度”是没有根据的。根据中国宪法，中国公民享有自由表达的权利，并且符合中国政府在1998年所签署的《国际人权公约》中的条款，欧盟呼吁结束对刘晓波先生的迫害，并且对其立即释放。
“The Candidate Countries Croatia* and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*, the Countries of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidates Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area align themselves with this declaration.
欧盟申请成员国克罗地亚与前南斯拉夫马其顿共和国、稳定与联合进程成员国、潜在成员国阿尔巴尼亚、波斯尼亚、黑塞哥维那、门的内哥罗（原黑山地区）与欧洲自由贸易公会（EFTA）成员国 冰岛、列支敦士登和挪威、欧盟经济区域均赞同此声明。
