（打油诗一首）

一抹残阳终归西，
万丈光芒贱如泥。
四海翻腾风雷起，
五州激荡迎希冀。
知识青年逢转机，
牛鬼蛇神吐恶气。
时乖运蹇不足奇，
峰回路转命若戏。
痛定思痛欠反思，
阴魂犹在未离弃。
封建专制难易旗，
民主法治遥无期。
物换星移史依稀，
盖棺论定仍未已。
公道自有民心持，
吟诗著文揭画皮。
美国总统川普对专制人物的“谄媚”广受诟病，但历史上，民主国家领导人中对专制人物卑谄足恭者并不鲜见。造成这种现象的原因十分复杂：有些是为实现特定目的而采取的策略，有些可能是其专制欲望的外在流露，但更多情况下，仍源于他们对专制体系本质缺乏深刻的认识。
1976年9月9日毛泽东去世，当时的美国总统杰拉尔德·福特（Gerald R. Ford）就在第一时间给时任中华人民共和国总理的华国锋发唁电称：“Few men in any era achieve historic greatness. Chairman Mao was one of these men. His leadership has been a decisive element in the shaping of the Chinese nation for several decades, and his works have left a deep imprint upon our civilization. He was truly a major figure of our times.”[1]（译文：在任何时代成为历史伟人的人很少，毛主席便是其中的一位。他的领导是几十年来改变中国的决定性因素，他的著作给我们的文明留下了深刻印记。他的确是我们时代的一位杰出人物。）
当日下午12点40分，杰拉尔德·福特在白宫新闻发布厅又发表声明：“The People’s Republic of China announced today the passing away of Chairman Mao Tse-Tung. Chairman Mao was a giant figure in modern Chinese history. He was a leader whose actions profoundly affected the development of his country. His influence on history will extend far beyond the borders of China. Americans will remember that it was under Chairman Mao that China moved together with the United States to end a generation of hostility and to launch a new and more positive era in relations between our two countries. I am confident that the trend of improved relations between The People’s Republic of China and the United States, which Chairman Mao helped create, will continue to contribute to world peace and stability. On behalf of the United States government and the American people I offer condolences to the government and people of The People’s Republic of China.”[2]（译文：今天中华人民共和国宣布了毛泽东主席逝世的消息。毛主席是中国现代史上的一位巨人。他是一位以他的行动深刻影响他的国家发展的领导人，他对历史的影响将远远超出中国的国界，美国人民将会记住，正是在毛主席的领导下，中国同美国一起采取行动结束了一代人的敌意，在我们两国关系上开创了一个新的、更加积极的时代。我坚信，毛主席帮助创建的，中华人民共和国和美国之间关系改善的趋势，将会继续对世界和平和稳定作出贡献。我代表美国政府和美国人民向中华人民共和国政府和人民表示哀悼。）
如此言论，不论杰拉尔德·福特出于何种目的，其实足以显现出其历史知识的匮乏和政治眼光的短浅。民主政权中某些权力人物的无知和虚伪，由此亦可见一斑。
谨记：千万别迷信权力人物，无论其出自何种政体。
