原注：（波斯文原诗）第四行中的ámadan读作ámadanam，后者未出现在扫描中。伏尔泰在他关于里斯本大地震的诗歌中有某些类似的诗句。
爱德华·亨利·温菲尔德（Edward Henry Whinfield, 1836-1922)——英国作家和波斯文学翻译家，1883年出版其翻译的波斯诗人欧玛尔·海亚姆（Omar Khayyam,1048-1131）的500首四行诗《鲁拜集》（Rubáiyát），1991年又出第二版，经修正并补充为508首。该四行诗为每首四行，第一、二、四行押韵，第三行通常不限韵，类似于中国古诗绝句格式。以上汉译在顾及七绝格律的前提下，与英诗押同韵（ai），并尽量采取直译。
