原注： “死亡为真”，即，一种确定性。菲利普·西德尼爵士（Philip Sidney, 1554-1586）根据马尔库斯·奥列里乌斯（Marcus Aurelius, 121-180）的说法：“既然大自然的作品很好，而死亡确实为大自然的作品，那么我们为什么要畏惧死亡呢？
爱德华·亨利·温菲尔德（Edward Henry Whinfield, 1836-1922)——英国作家和波斯文学翻译家，1883年出版其翻译的波斯诗人欧玛尔·海亚姆（Omar Khayyam,1048-1131）的500首四行诗《鲁拜集》（Rubáiyát），1991年又出第二版，经修正并补充为508首。该四行诗为每首四行，第一、二、四行押韵，第三行通常不限韵，类似于中国古诗绝句格式。以上汉译在顾及七绝格律的前提下，与英诗押同韵（ai），并尽量采取直译。
