Petition to the Chinese Government to Release ICPC’s Member Du Daobin
Please sign this petition letter to the Chinese government calling for release of ICPC’s Du Daobin.
Du has been a prolific writer who distributed his essays online both in China and abroad. He is particularly active in activities appealing to the authorities to release arrested internet writers such as Liu Di and Huang Qi, and calling for freedom of expression.
Du Daobin was arrested on October 28 in his hometown Xiaogan District, Yingcheng, Hubei Province. On the same day, police came to Du’s house and confiscated his computer, books, and copies of his writings. Du’s wife Huang Chunrong was told by the policemen that Du was charged for trying to ”subvert the state”. The policemen also warned Huang that she should not tell foreign journalists about the arrest. Huang has not been allowed to visit or communicate with Du in detention.
ICPC has expressed our deep concern over Du’s case. We request the highest executive authorities in China to take lawful measures to instruct the relevant authorities to liberate Du Daobin.
ICPC has already written a petition letter addressed to the government and Premier Minister Wen Jiabao, calling for releasing Du immediately. More than one thousand of writers, professors, reporters, scholars etc all over the world have now signed the petition. That letter is also open for public to sign. Anyone who would like to sign that letter can send an email to [email protected] to give authorization to put his/her name at the end of the letter. The name list can also been seen in internet homepage http://sky.prohosting.com/liudiorg/DuDaobin01.htm.
We hope more writers in the world to show their concerns about Du and give your support to Independent Chinese Pen Centre (ICPC), and sign this letter which will be published in the same homepage and sent to the government.
