LIU Xiao is a literary critic, politic commentator and human rights activist, Honorary President of Independent Chinese PEN Center and its President in 2003-2007, the recipient of the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize, was held under residential surveillance by Beijing Public Security Bureau since 8 December 2008 and then formally arrested on 23 June 2009, sentenced to 11 years imprisonment on “inciting subversion of the state power” for his participation in drafting Charter 08 and publishing 6 articles on December 25, 2009. He is also an honorary member of German, American, Portuguese, Czech and Sydney PEN Centers.
